A Quick Guide to Our Hollow Torches

All our torches share the same core design, but they differ in feel, style and functionality. This short video will help you understand the differences and choose the right pair for you.

Build Your Perfect Pair

At their core, all our torches are the same. Same materials, same quality, same vapor draw. Where they differ is in how they look, how they feel in the hand, and what they can do.

Classic Hollow Torches

The design everything else is built on.

Our bare metal torches are where the range begins. A smooth aluminium body, hand-stitched wicks and precision-drilled vapor holes. Everything you need to eat fire, draw vapor and start building your skills. Available in standard brushed aluminium or in a range of anodised colours to match your style.

Silicone Wrapped Hollow Torches

Same torch. Better grip. More control.

Adding a silicone wrap transforms how the torch feels and handles. You get more grip, better balance, and a torch that stays exactly where you want it during flourishes and tosses. Every wrapped torch starts as the same classic design, just with an upgrade where it matters most. Choose black as standard or go custom and pick from 11 different colours to create something unique.

Hollow Torches with Nitro Grips

The torches that go boom!

Nitro Grips quickly became our most popular upgrade and it is easy to see why. Precision needle roller bearings allow the torch body to spin freely inside a 3D printed handle. When you roll the torch across your body, or your other torch, the spinning wick sprays fuel outward and produces a dramatic boom effect that audiences love. Available wrapped or unwrapped.

Every pair is hand-wrapped to your exact specification and built on the same trusted design as the rest of our range.

Which Wick Size is Right for You?

1.5 inch or 2 inch. Here is how to decide.

Every torch in our range is available with either a 1.5 inch or 2 inch wick. They are the same thickness, just different lengths. The shorter 1.5 inch wick is easier to work with, gives you more room for vapor, and produces cleaner fire eats. The longer 2 inch wick gives you more burn time and a slightly bigger visual. The 1.5 inch is the size Tom uses personally, and the one we recommend for the majority of performers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about our torches? Here are the answers to the most common ones.

Hollow torches, sometimes called fire wands or fire sticks, are fire eating props with a tubular aluminium body rather than a solid rod. Beneath the wick, the tube is sealed and has small precision-drilled holes. These holes provide an additional way to draw fuel vapor through the body of the torch. Hollow torches can do everything a standard torch can, but they also open up extra techniques and a more convenient method for collecting vapor.

Standard fire eating torches have a solid body, which means the only way to collect vapor is directly from the wick. Hollow torches give you an additional option. Small holes beneath the wick let you draw vapor up through the body of the torch, giving you a more convenient and often safer way to collect it. They also unlock a handful of techniques that are simply impossible with solid torches.

Fire wands, fire sticks, and hollow torches are all names used to describe similar fire eating props. Our hollow torches are specifically designed for vapor manipulation, with precision-drilled holes and hand-stitched para-aramid wicks that set them apart from generic alternatives.

Our torches use an 8mm aluminium body and 100% para-aramid fibre wicks that are hand-stitched with no exposed metal fasteners. When choosing any fire eating torch, make sure the wicks are 100% aramid fibre. Cheaper wicks containing fibreglass or ceramic compounds should be avoided. The body should always be metal, not wood, regardless of what it is wrapped in.

Nitro Grips are 3D printed handles with precision needle roller bearings seated inside them. When attached to a torch, the torch body spins freely within the handle. This means when you roll the torch across your body or against your other torch, the wick spins fast enough to spray fuel outward and create a dramatic boom effect.

We offer a 1.5 inch and a 2 inch wick. Same thickness, different length. The shorter 1.5 inch is easier to eat with, gives you more room for vapor, and produces cleaner results. The 2 inch gives you a longer burn and a slightly bigger visual. We recommend the 1.5 inch for most people. It is the size Tom uses personally and the one we switched to exclusively for our workshops after seeing a noticeable improvement in student success rates.

Yes. Our torches are used by complete beginners and experienced professionals alike. The design is the same regardless of which option you choose, so you are not getting a lesser torch by starting with a more affordable option. If you are new to fire eating, we recommend starting with our classic bare metal torches and the 1.5 inch wick size.

Vapor manipulation is the skill of using fuel vapor to produce controlled fire effects beyond a basic fire eat. Think fireballs, human candles, and more. To learn how it works, check out the Fire In Your Face Academy.
